Gratch takes home Rookie of the Week award

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Emily Gratch earned her first Patriot League Rookie of the Week award when the league handed out its weekly awards Monday. The freshman forward finished off a stellar week on the court with a career high 20 points, leading Lehigh to a win over Holy Cross on Saturday.

The freshman forward averaged 13.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game in Lehigh’s two final wins to close out the regular season. She shot 60 percent from the field and 90 percent from the free throw line, as the Mountain Hawks improved to 23-6 on the season and 12-2 in the Patriot League, clinching the league’s regular season title in the process.

Gratch had a career day on Saturday, going 7-for-10 from the field and 6-for-6 from the free throw line as she scored 20 points for the Mountain Hawks. The freshman also stuffed the stat sheet with six rebounds, three blocks, two assists and two steals as she stole the show on senior day in Stabler Arena.

Gratch is the second Mountain Hawk to win the Rookie of the Week award this season. Fellow freshman Alexa Williams earned the honor three times in the 2008-09 campaign.

Lehigh returns to action on Saturday in round one of the Patriot League Tournament at noon, when the Mountain Hawks host the Colgate Raiders.
