Lehigh looks to improve to 4-0 at home Saturday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh will play one last game before taking some time off for the holidays Saturday when it hosts the Binghamton Bearcats. The Mountain Hawks and Bearcats have played seven times in the last eight seasons, and Lehigh will be looking to make it three in a row against Binghamton, including a double-overtime thriller last season at the Events Center. Lehigh is coming off a convincing 65-54 victory over NJIT at the Prudential Center on Thursday night, led by Alex Ross’ 22 points.

The Mountain Hawks turned the ball over 28 times but pulled out a sloppy win on the road Thursday night at NJIT in the Prudential Center. Three Mountain Hawks scored in double figures including Alex Ross (22), Alexa Williams (15) and Tricia Smith (11). Ross sank a career-best six 3-pointers to move into third place on Lehigh’s all time list and Alexa Williams set a career high with 15 points and added eight rebounds in the win.

Binghamton comes into the game with a 4-6 record after it dropped its last two games to Villanova and Miami. In those games, the Bearcats scored 37 points in each and were outscored 127-74. Binghamton has fared better on the road this season, going 3-2 away from home and just 1-4 at the Events Center. Erica Carter leads the way for the Bearcats with 10.5 points per game.

The Mountain Hawks and Bearcats have seen a lot of each other over the past eight years. The teams have been scheduled to meet in each of those eight seasons, but the 2002-03 matchup was cancelled due to a snowstorm. The home teams have fared well in the seven games of the series, as they have defended their courts in six of the meetings. The only time in the overall series a road team has claimed victory was last season, when Lehigh went up to Vestal, N.Y. and pulled out a 68-67 win in double overtime at the Events Center.

Lehigh is 3-0 at home this season, outscoring opponents by a score of 214-150 (average margin of 21.3 points per game). The closest a road team has come to winning at Stabler Arena was when Bryant only lost by 15 points to the Mountain Hawks.
