Lehigh continues road stretch at FDU

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Mountain Hawks continue with part two of their four-game road trip Wednesday by traveling to Hackensack, N.J. to take on the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights. Lehigh comes into the game with a 1-1 record, after routing Penn at Stabler Arena on opening night and dropping a tight 71-63 game to St. Joseph’s on Sunday.

The Mountain Hawks erased a 10-point halftime deficit to pull even with the Hawks at the Gallagher Center at Philadelphia University’s campus on Sunday. Lehigh was in the game until the final minutes, when a string of hot shooting from the Hawks dealt the squad its first loss of the 2008-09 season by a score of 71-63. Despite the loss, Lehigh continues to shoot well from the floor, putting up a .477 field goal percentage and a .378 mark from behind the three-point line.

The Knights opened up the new season with a 59-51 win over Bryant on Monday. Junior forward Christy Altamirano shifts to her more natural position of power forward this season and will be the primary offensive weapon as evidenced by her 20 points and nine rebounds Monday. The Knights finished last season ranked fifth in the NEC, but they bring back a mostly inexperienced squad, with just two seniors and nine freshmen and sophomores.

The Brown and White has matched up with the Knights three times in school history, with Lehigh holding the advantage, 2-1. The two teams last matched up in a home-and- home series in the 2003-04 and 2004-05 seasons. Lehigh grabbed victories in each of the last two meetings, earning wins both home and away. In 2003-04, the Mountain Hawks defeated the Knights in Hackensack, 65-58, and in 2004-05 Lehigh defended the Stabler Arena court with a 73-69 win.

Tipoff for Wednesday night’s game is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Rothman Center. Fans that can’t make it out to Teaneck, N.J. can catch a live radio broadcast of the game on WLVR-FM (91.3) and Lehighsports.com with Jeff Tourial calling the action starting at 6:45 p.m.
