Lehigh welcomes Crusaders in final home series

The Lehigh offense continued to impress against Monmouth, as senior Mendy Martin delivered a three-run blast to lead the Mountain Hawks to a 5-2 win in game one. Game two saw junior Megan Conrad go 3-for-3 with three RBI and senior Heather Hamasaki provide a pair of RBI singles in a 9-1 Lehigh triumph. The Mountain Hawks have been even tougher at the plate in league play, with a .391 team batting average. Junior Kate Marvel and senior Julie Sterrett are both hitting over .500 in league games, while Patriot League Player of the Week is batting .340 overall with four homers and a league-leading 31 RBI.
Sophomore Lisa Sweeney and freshman Tiffany Curtis have combined to form a formidable one-two punch in the pitcher’s circle. Sweeney leads the league with 14 wins, while Curtis has added nine victories and has lowered her ERA to 3.25.
Despite a 4-32 record and 1-11 league mark, Holy Cross could prove to be a dangerous opponent for the Brown and White. The Crusaders finished last in the Patriot League a year ago, but handed Lehigh its only league loss of the season, which also happened to snap Lehigh’s Patriot League record 44 game league regular season winning streak. The Mountain Hawks and Crusaders will play doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday with action beginning at noon on both days from Kaufman Field. Lehigh’s seven seniors: Stefanie Forlenza, Heather Hamasaki, Lauren Haney, Mendy Martin, Stephanie Palmieri, Whitney Schenbeck and Julie Sterrett, will all be honored prior to game one of Saturday’s doubleheader.
