BETHLEHEM, Pa. – A pair of Mountain Hawks in senior Joe Loguidice and junior Eric Harper, were recently named 2009 All-Americans by the American Collegiate Rowing Association (ACRA). Criteria for selection used included: 2,000 meter testing scores, career racing results, accomplishments within their team, individual performances and the coach recommendation performance of their crew. In all, there were 27 student-athletes named to the All-America teams, with Loguidice one of just nine First-Team selections.
Loguidice and Harper rowed in the men’s varsity 8 boat the entire 2008-09 academic year. A captain, Loguidice maintains a 3.78 grade point average as a biology major, while Harper carries a 3.28 GPA as a mechanical engineering major. The pair of Mountain Hawks helped lead the Brown and White to a fifth place finish at this year’s ACRA National Championship, held in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Lehigh posted a pair of second place finishes on the first day of competition in Tennessee, increasing its time by five seconds in the second race to earn a spot in the Grand Final. The Mountain Hawks then placed fifth in the Grand Final.
The pair of All-Americans also helped lead the Mountain Hawks crew to a spot in the Petite Final at the 2009 Dad Vail Regatta, as well as another victory over archrival Lafayette in the annual River Cup. “This is a tremendous honor for Joe and Eric,” Lehigh head coach Liz Meltzer said. “Joe has been a model student-athlete during his four years with our program and what a great way for him to end his career with a First-Team All-American selection. Eric can use his selection as motivation for next season as he gets set to enter his senior year. I’m very proud of these young men for their efforts on and off the water.”
