Patriot League announces preseason poll

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After qualifying for the Patriot League Tournament for the first time ever in 2005, Lehigh has been selected to finish fourth in the 2006 preseason poll, as announced by the league on Tuesday. The poll is voted on by the league’s head coaches and sports information directors. The Mountain Hawks feature a strong senior class of eight student-athletes, and also return seven starters and 26 letterwinners from a season ago. Reigning league champion Navy was selected to repeat in the poll, followed by Army, Bucknell, the Mountain Hawks, Colgate, Holy Cross and Lafaytte.

With Jeff King and Alec Hoof, head coach Chris Wakely has two former All-League players he can look to, to lead the 2006 squad. Other players expected to have an impact for the Brown and White this season are Blake Best, Eric Spirko, Tom Weiss, Jeff Davis, Jeff Wiener, Stephen Marino, and Dane Kasschau, among others. The Mountain Hawks also welcome in a deep and talented group of newcomers, which should give Wakely plenty of options for the year.

Lehigh opens its season on Saturday afternoon, February 18 at the Ulrich Sports Complex versus the Fightin’ Blue Hens of Delaware. Game time is slated for 2:00.
