BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Smith Family Head Lacrosse Coach Kevin Cassese was recently picked up by the Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse and will join their training camp this upcoming weekend. Cassese had played for the Philadelphia Barrage in 2007 and 2008, helping lead them to the 2007 MLL Championship. "In my opinion, the Boston Cannons are the premier organization in Major League Lacrosse,” Cassese explained. “Boston is great city, with great fans that come out in droves to support their sports teams. I am grateful to head coach Bill Daye for giving me the opportunity to continue my MLL career in Boston. I am looking forward to joining the team at training camp this weekend and working hard to earn a spot on the active roster."
Boston will be Cassese’s third stop in the MLL after beginning his professional career with the Rochester Rattlers, an organization he remained with for four years, before heading to Philadelphia. Last season, Cassese and Philadelphia advanced to the MLL’s semifinals before being upended by Rochester of all teams, 16-15. Cassese scored a two-point goal in the second half of the game.
The Cannons begin their 2009 season on May 16 when they play host to the Long Island Lizards. The team will play 12 regular season contests, culminating with the finale on August 8 versus the Washington Bayhawks. Boston ended its 2008 season with a record of 7-5, including a 20-14 victory in the finale over Western Conference Champion Denver in front of over 8,000 fans at Harvard Stadium.
