Lehigh travels to Worcester to face Holy Cross

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh begins the final week of its regular season on Tuesday as the Mountain Hawks travel to Worcester, Massachusetts to take on the Holy Cross Crusaders in a key Patriot League showdown. Lehigh enters the week sitting in a tie for fourth place in the league standings with archrival Lafayette, while Army is one-half game out of fourth in the fight for the final Patriot League Tournament berth.
Lehigh will look to snap a four-game losing streak in Worcester, which includes an 18-10 setback versus Bucknell on Saturday evening in Lewisburg. The Mountain Hawks trailed by five goals on two separate occasions in that contest, but battled back to get within three in the final quarter before Bucknell unleashed a 6-0 run to pull away for the victory.
Senior Ricky Cornetta continued his brilliant play in Lewisburg with three goals and two assists, raising his season totals to 25 goals and 23 assists. Junior Brian Bienemann is second on the team with 18 goals, while freshman Cameron Lao-Gosney checks in with 17. Senior Max Dahlem has handed out seven assists, which is second behind Cornetta, while Bienemann’s six are third.
Will Scudder won 19-of-28 face-offs versus Bucknell, which raised his win percentage to 54.7-percent on the season (129-236). Scudder has also scooped up a team-high 59 ground balls, with junior Evan Guerrero second with 39 GBs. Guerrero also leads the Brown and White with 36 caused turnovers, while in goal Morgan Haller has stopped 63 shots in 443 minutes of action.
Holy Cross has won its last two games, including a 9-4 victory over Marist on Saturday at home. The Crusaders have dropped their first five league games of the season, which includes a 7-4 loss at Lafayette on April 4.
Colin McGeehin leads the Crusaders with 20 goals and 26 points, while Conor McKenna has handed out a team-leading eight assists. Kenny Minor and Chris Smirti have also scored double figure goals with 14 and 13, respectively.
Brendan Candon is the team leader with 35 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers, while A.J. Guarente has won 41 face-offs. In goal for Holy Cross Jimmy Harrison has played nearly 650 minutes, and stopped 140 shots during that time, good for a GAA of 9.80.
Lehigh has never lost to Holy Cross in men’s lacrosse, having won all 18 meetings, including a 10-5 victory last season at home. In 2007 the Brown and White earned a 9-8 victory in overtime in Worcester.
Lehigh and Holy Cross will get things started at 4:00 on Tuesday afternoon.
