Lehigh faces tough Colgate squad on Saturday

Lehigh had eight players score in the matchup against Bryant, led by senior Ricky Cornetta. Cornetta found the back of the net three times and added another three assists. Junior Brian Bienemann along with freshmen Cameron Lao-Gosney and Adam Johnston each added two goals apiece.
Lehigh outshot the Bulldogs 45-39 but were unable to pull out a win. Lao-Gosney unleashed nine shots during the game while Max Dahlem added another eight. Richard Bradley led the team in caused turnovers with seven and Kyle Gentile added another five to the Mountain Hawk total of 20. Will Scudder and Richard Bradley faced off in the X for Lehigh but were outmatched by Bryant’s Andrew Hennessey who went 21-of-31 against the Mountain Hawks. Hennessey leads the nation in face-off win percentage this season. In total, Lehigh scooped up 32 ground balls against the Bulldogs.
Lehigh has been led throughout the season by Cornetta who leads the team in both scoring and assists. He was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week on March 23 after totaling five goals and eight helpers in a pair of road wins over nationally ranked teams. Cornetta has scored 21 goals this season and added 19 assists to help the Mountain Hawks.
Fellow teammate Bienemann is ranked second on the squad with 21 points spread out between 16 goals and five assists. He is closely followed by Lao-Gosney who earned Rookie of the Week honors last week, and has totaled 13 goals and three assists on the season.
Scudder has also stood out throughout the Mountain Hawks season as he has won 101-of-188 faceoffs at the X and leads the team in ground balls with 46. Scudder is followed in ground balls by Evan Guerrero who has scooped up 33 this season. Guerrero also leads the team with 33 caused turnovers, while Dan Honeywell has added another 24.
Colgate is tied for first in the Patriot League with Bucknell with identical 3-0 records. The Raiders have been on a five-game winning streak after starting their season off at 1-3. Colgate’s matchup last weekend against Army went into double overtime. The Raiders were down by two scores with 42 seconds remaining in regulation but were determined to remain undefeated, and after a pair of overtimes, they came out victorious following a goal with 1:04 remaining left in the second OT by Zack Craumer.
Colgate comes into Saturday’s matchup with two key players, Brandon Corp and Kevin Colleluori. A preseason All-American, Corp leads the team with 24 goals and 17 assists, and has scored at last one point in each of his last 41 games. Colleluori closely follows Corp with 23 goals and has added eight assists.
The Raiders have won 58-percent of their faceoffs and totaled 39 caused turnovers for the season. Colgate goalie Tim Harrington has played 512 minutes between the pipes and allowed an average of nine goals per game, while sending back 91 shots in that time.
Lehigh will face Colgate on Saturday April 4 at the Ulrich Sports Complex. The game’s opening faceoff will be at 1:00 pm and all of the action will be shown live at Lehighsports.com.
