Senior co-captain and Coaches Award winner Patrick McCahill leads the way following a 2003-04 season that saw him garner All-Patriot League honors following an eighth place finish at the league championships. McCahill, who was also an All-League selection as a sophomore, shot a 151 at the two-day Navy Invitational to finish in a tie for ninth place last season, and backed that up with a third place finish at the Cornell Invite. McCahill has been a model of consistency throughout his time at Lehigh and that should prove to be no different once again this year.
Fellow senior John Jaravata has been a consistent performer in his career and will look to continue that trend in ’04-05. Last season, Jaravata placed eighth at the Colgate Invitational with a score of 147, while as a sophomore, he was an All-League selection after shooting a team-leading 72 in the third round of the championships.
Sophomores Alan Borowsky and Will Weihenmayer both had very solid first seasons for the Mountain Hawks, particularly Borowsky, who was an All-Patriot League selection after leading Lehigh with a 234 at the league championships, good for seventh overall. Borowsky was also named Athlete of the Year on the team for his first year, which also included a hole-in-one on the 17th hole at the William & Mary Invitational on his way to a 12th place finish and a fourth place finish at the Don Mershon Classic. Weihenmayer was also impressive in his inaugural season as a Mountain Hawk, including a second place finish at the Lehigh Valley Invitational and a 13th place finish at the Patriot League Championships. The sensational sophomore combination of Weihenmayer and Borowsky should be keeping the Mountain Hawks in contention for many years to come. Juniors Jason Moloney and Benjamin Rodney also return to provide depth. Moloney shot an 81 last season at the Don Mershon Classic as Lehigh took the overall crown, so that experience should only help him contribute even more this year. With such a talented and deep core of upperclassmen returning, the newest members of the team will not have the normal pressures to contribute from the beginning, but rather it will give them a chance to settle in slowly and learn from a great group of veterans. Jason Dress, Kyle Gunnison, Chad Lubart, Stephen Shackleton and David Tanana will all get their opportunity to help the Mountain Hawks as well as strengthen the roster and add quality depth.
The team will once again play their matches at the beautiful, yet challenging Saucon Valley Country Club, which is located only a short distance away from the Lehigh campus, which allows the players an opportunity to get as much practice time as possible.
Spring competition gets underway at William & Mary on March 21st, following the annual spring break trip.
