Muscalus named Patriot League Pitcher of the Week

Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh pitcher Jack Muscalus has been named the Patriot League’s Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 4. The award for Muscalus is his first of the season, and the honor is the fifth of the season for a Lehigh player. The recognition is handed out by the league office.

During the week, Muscalus appeared once out of the bullpen and once in a starting role. In his lone start, the team captain held Army – the league’s preseason favorite – to just one run over seven innings as Muscalus notched a 2-1, complete game victory. In the win, Muscalus allowed just five hits while striking out seven.

Earlier in the week, the senior pitched one inning of relief in a game at Maryland-Eastern Shore. In that contest, Muscalus blanked the Fighting Hawks, striking out two.

For the season, the right-hander is 3-1 with a 3.51 earned run average. His 23 career victories place him second all-time at Lehigh, just one win shy of the school’s all-time mark.

Lehigh (12-11-1 overall, 2-2 Patriot League) returns to action on Thursday, when the Mountain Hawks visit Saint Joseph’s. First pitch is set for 3:00 pm from Philadelphia.
