McBride named to Freshmen All-American team

McBride made quite a debut in 2004, earning All-Patriot League second team recognition. He started 45 games as the team’s primary catcher and clean-up hitter, leading the team in a number of offensive categories, including hits, doubles, and total bases. His 20 two-baggers are a school record, and also topped the Patriot League. McBride ranks sixth in the country doubles per game in 2004. McBride hit .366 for the season, including a clutch .400 with runners on base.
Defensively, McBride threw out nearly 60% of would-be base stealers on the season while committing just two errors behind the dish.
“This is a well-deserved honor for Matt,” said Lehigh head coach Sean Leary. “He certainly put up the numbers both offensively and defensively for us. He’s one of those guys who’s usually the first one [at practice] and the last one to leave. For people that work so hard, as Matt has, these types of things will happen.”
This summer, McBride is taking his talents to
Lehigh wrapped up the 2004 season with a 25-21 record. The 25 victories rank second all-time in school history. The Mountain Hawks also made their third consecutive appearance in the Patriot League’s postseason tournament, another first for the school.
