Mountain Hawks out-slug St. Francis

Bradenton, FL – Lehigh picked up its third consecutive win as the Mountain Hawks outlasted St. Francis (NY) by a 12-11 score in a wild affair at the IMG Baseball Academy on Saturday morning. The win improves Lehigh’s record to 5-4, as the Mountain Hawks return to Bethlehem.
Shortstop Eric Hoffman led the offensive charge for Lehigh, going 3-for-5 at the plate scoring two runs. Hoffman was one of five Mountain Hawks with two or more hits in the game. Catcher Jeff Quiros collected two hits as well, including a double, as he drove in two. Quiros also drew three walks. Third baseman Jesse Novalis added a double and two runs batted in, and Matt Yarnold also drove in a run with a double and scored a run as well. Captain Jeremy Mack laced a triple and scored twice in the win.
Sophomore Ryan Dodds pitched an inning and two-thirds of relief to earn his first victory of the season. Matt Mezzancello earned his second save of the year, pitching an inning and a third to close the door on the Terriers.
Anthony Esposito, who suffered the loss on the mound yesterday for St. Francis, smacked a two-run homer in the fourth in a losing effort for the Terriers.
The Mountain Hawks will look to continue their winning ways on Tuesday, as Lehigh visits La Salle. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 from Philadelphia.
