Bradenton, FL – Lehigh split a pair of games on Monday, falling to Harvard by a 13-5 score in the morning, and then rebounding to top Miami (Ohio) by a 10-4 count in the afternoon at the IMG Baseball Academy. Following the day’s action, the Mountain Hawks stand at 2-2 on the season.
The Crimson jumped out to a 6-0 lead with a 6-run first inning off Lehigh’s Ryan Dodds (0-1) in the opener, highlighted by a grand slam from Harvard designated hitter Schuyler Mann. Lehigh responded with five runs of its own in the bottom half of the frame. Right fielder Jeff Baker plated two runs with a single in the rally.
Unfortunately for the Mountain Hawks, Lehigh could not push across any more runs, and Harvard (3-1) scored in six of the remaining eight innings to earn the 13-5 victory. The Crimson smacked 16 hits en route to the win.
Lehigh did not need very long to stop the two-game slide, as the Mountain Hawks responded with a 10-4 win over the Miami (Ohio) Redhawks (3-6) in the day’s second contest. Shortstop Eric Hoffman went 4-for-5 with two doubles, two runs scored, two RBI, and a stolen base in the win. Catcher Jeff Quiros was also 4-for-5 at the plate, lacing a double and driving in three. Sophomore Adam Marr (1-0) allowed two runs over seven innings to pick up the win. Fellow classmate Matt Mezzancello pitched the game’s final inning to earn his first save.
The Mountain Hawks return to the diamond on Tuesday morning to take on Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne at 10:30 am in Bradenton.
