Bradenton, FL – After a layoff of over two weeks, Lehigh finally returned to the diamond on Sunday morning, as the Mountain Hawks kicked off a week of games over spring break in Florida. Sophomore Jack Muscalus hurled eight shutout innings, but it wasn’t enough as Boston College squeaked out a one-nothing victory over Lehigh (1-1).
Muscalus scattered three hits, struck out six, and did not allow a run over eight innings in keeping the Eagles (6-6) off the scoreboard. Meanwhile, BC’s Matt Elfeldt was up to the task as well, keeping the Mountain Hawks’ potent offense quiet. He allowed just two hits over seven innings as the game remained deadlocked in a scoreless tie.
Matt Nusinov came on to pitch in the ninth for the Mountain Hawks. Boston College loaded the bases with one out. Eagles second baseman Josh DiScipio came up to the plate and hit a shot down the third base line. Lehigh’s Jesse Novalis fielded the ball, stepped on the third base bag, but was unable to turn the double play, allowing the game’s only run to score.
Offensively for Lehigh, first baseman Matt Yarnold collected two hits, while Eric Hoffman and John Zaszewski each added singles for the Brown & White.
Lehigh returns to action with a pair of games on Monday. The Mountain Hawks will take on Harvard at 10:30 am and then Miami (Ohio) at 2:30 pm.
