Bethlehem, PA – Four Mountain Hawks have been selected to Baseball America’s pre-season All-Patriot League team, and freshman pitcher Jack Lyons was named the league’s Top Newcomer. The recognition came in the publication’s most recent issue, promoting players with the best tools in the collegiate game.
Senior outfielder Jeremy Mack, along with junior infielders Jesse Novalis and Eric Hoffman, and sophomore pitcher Jack Muscalus were all mentioned among the best players in the league. All four were selected to the all-league teams following a 2002 campaign that saw Lehigh establish a new school record in wins (29) and capture a share of the Patriot League Championship. In addition, Hoffman was named a regional All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association, and Louisville Slugger selected Muscalus on its All-Freshman squad.
"It is exciting for our program to have our individual players
recognized for what they’ve accomplished," said head coach Sean Leary. "It is complement to the type of student-athletes we have in our program. The best trait of all of these players is that they would trade individual honors for the Patriot League championship that they came so
close to claiming last season."
After capturing a share of the regular season title in 2002, Lehigh advanced to the finals of the Patriot League’s post-season tournament before falling to Navy in the title game. The 2003 squad first takes to the diamond on February 22, when Lehigh visits Georgetown.
