Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh freshman pitcher Jack Muscalus has been named to the 2002 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American team following a dominant rookie season in which he made an immediate and lasting impact on the hill. The award, selected by Collegiate Baseball newspaper, comes on the heels of two other honors bestowed upon Muscalus. He had previously garnered recognition as the Patriot League Rookie of the Year and as an All-Patriot League second team selection.
In his debut campaign at Lehigh, Muscalus posted a 7-3 overall record with five complete games and a 3.48 ERA. The newcomer also performed exceptionally well in five regular season Patriot League outings. He compiled a 4-1 record with a 2.20 ERA. League opponents hit only .248 against the right-hander.
The Mountain Hawks completed the 2002 season with a school-record 29 wins and a share of their first-ever Patriot League regular season title. The Lehigh squad shattered several school and Patriot League records en route to their second league post-season tournament berth. In addition to Muscalus, four other Mountain Hawks were named All-Patriot League.
