Third baseman Jesse Novalis was 6-for-6 at the plate in Wednesday’s 11-5 win over Moravian, and the sophomore’s effort matched a Patriot League record for most hits in a single contest. Navy’s Steve Mauro also holds the distinction, as he notched six hits against Lafayette on April 4, 1993. With Wednesday’s effort, Novalis raised his batting average to .343. One of his hits was a home run, his team-leading seventh of the season. He led Lehigh in hitting last season, as he boasted a .357 average in his freshman campaign. Novalis has started all 29 games so far in the 2002 season.
Lehigh is 16-12-1 (2-2 Patriot League) on the season, and the Mountain Hawks have won their last two ballgames. Lehigh resumes Patriot League play with a four-game series at Bucknell, who is 4-4 in the league. Action begins with a doubleheader at Noon on Saturday in Lewisburg.
