Homestead, FL – For the first time this season, Lehigh lost its second straight game, as the Mountain Hawks fell to the Boston College Eagles by a score of 11-5 in the Homestead Challenge on Wednesday night. The loss drops Lehigh’s record to 4-3-1 on the season, while the victory improves the Eagles’ mark to 5-5.
The Mountain Hawks were paced offensively by a strong effort from a pair of sophomores. Jesse Novalis was 2-4 at the plate, stroking a triple and smashing a double. Novalis also scored a run and drove in another. Sophomore Eric Hoffman had an outstanding night offensively as well, collecting four hits in five at bats, while knocking home three runs.
On the mound, senior Jared Carey got the starting nod, and was saddled with the loss. He is now 0-1 on the season. Freshman Matt Mezzancello pitched well in relief. In five innings of work, Mezzancello allowed no runs, four hits, and struck out two Eagles, while walking only one.
Lehigh returns to action at the Homestead Challenge on Thursday, as the Mountain Hawks will meet Duquesne. First pitch is scheduled for 2:45 pm from south Florida.
