Homestead, FL – For the second consecutive day, Lehigh battled the University of Pittsburgh at the Homestead Challenge. Unlike Sunday’s five run loss, the Mountain Hawks put eight runs on the board Monday, to tie the Panthers, 8-8. Lehigh now stands at 3-1-1 on the season, while the stalemate ends Pittsburgh’s eight game winning streak and marks the most runs allowed by the Big East squad in a game so far this season.
Lehigh was led offensively by a 2-5 effort from Eric Hoffman, who scored twice. Chad Thoman also added two hits and an RBI. Jesse Novalis and Jeremy Mack each drove in two for the Mountain Hawks.
On the mound, freshman Ryan Dodds made his first start for Lehigh, striking out five Panther hitters in five and a third innings of work.
Lehigh is back in action Tuesday with a pair of games. The Mountain Hawks take on Fairfield at 1:00, before visiting Florida International Tuesday night under the lights. First pitch in that contest is scheduled for 7:00.
