Philadelphia, PA – In its final game of the season Lehigh (14-28, 6-14) fell to LaSalle (11-29-1) by a score of 11-10. After four innings LaSalle had a 3-2 lead. But in the next inning Lehigh would add two more off of an RBI single from freshman Jesse Novalis and a bases loaded walk from sophomore Matt Yarnold. The Mountain Hawks’ offense exploded the next inning putting up five runs. Three of the runs were the result of a three RBI double by Novalis. Senior Pat Hollander added the other two runs when he hit a two-run homerun to right-centerfield. Hollander went 2-for-4 on the day with a run and two RBI’s. LaSalle was able to answer by scoring six runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at 9-9.
Lehigh broke the tie in the top of the eighth inning as it successfully executed a double steal that scored Novalis. Novalis finished the game 3-for-3 with two runs scored and five RBI’s. Unfortunately, LaSalle hit a couple of RBI singles in the bottom of that inning to take an 11-10 lead that the Mountain Hawks were not able to answer.
Freshman Keith Frerichs (2-3), who entered the game in relief, received the loss for Lehigh. Junior Brian Andalman started the game for the Mountain Hawks and pitched five and one-third innings, struck out four, and only gave up three earned runs.
