Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh (14-27, 6-14) battled Long Island (17-23, 12-8) today in a non-conference game in which LIU came out on top by a score of 13-6. LIU jumped out to an early lead in the first inning scoring four runs. Lehigh bounced back quickly, however, as it posted six unanswered runs over the next three innings. Four of those runs came in the third inning as a result of RBI singles from junior Jeff Pietrak and sophomore Jarrod Niedosik, a sacrifice fly from freshman Jesse Novalis, and an RBI double from junior Chad Thoman. But LIU battled back putting up six runs in the following inning, and then adding three more before the game ended. Unfortunately, the Mountain Hawks were not able to answer.
For Lehigh the big hitters were Pietrak who finished 3-for-5 with a double, a run, and two RBI’s, Thoman who went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored, and an RBI, and Niedosik who hit 1-for-4 with two RBI’s. On the mound freshman Matt Nusinov (2-2) suffered the loss. Junior Dave Cerminaro came in for five innings of relief and struck out six.
The Mountain Hawks close out their season tomorrow with a non-league game Lasalle scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
