Worcester, MA--- Lehigh fell to Holy Cross again as it was swept in a doubleheader Sunday afternoon. In the first game, Lehigh jumped out early as the Mountain Hawks scored twice in the first on a sac fly from senior Pat Hollander and a RBI single by junior Chad Thoman. Holy Cross tied it a 2-2 in the bottom of the second courtesy of a two-run double and then added another run the next inning to go ahead 3-2.
Lehigh’s big inning was the sixth as five straight hits with four RBI’s chased out Crusader starter Ryan Kenny. Thoman would add his second RBI of the day as he finished 2-for-4.
The seventh saw Holy Cross rally for four runs off reliever Josh Hillman (1-6). A key error by 3B Matt Yarnold with 2 outs kept the game alive for Holy Cross (19-19, 11-9). The Crusaders won it on Mike Macholz’s second double of the game to score Bill Andruskevich.
Starter senior Ryan Parish went six innings walking five, surrendering four runs, and striking out two. Freshman Eric Hoffman was 3-for-4 with a run scored and a run knocked in.
Game two saw Holy Cross rally once again this time it was off starter Jeff Pietrak (2-2). The Mountain Hawks took a 4-3 lead in the fourth off a home run by Hollander, his team-leading sixth long ball of the year. The Crusaders answered by taking the lead for good in the sixth. With runners on second and third, Pietrak uncorked a pair of wild pitches that enabled Holy Cross to go ahead 5-4. Macholz struck again as his RBI double made it 6-4. James Arrante went the distance finishing off Lehigh in the seventh to send the Mountain Hawks to their fourth straight defeat. Hollander finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and 2 RBI’s. Teammate Jesse Novalis was 1-for-3 with a run scored.
