Lehigh (10-17, 4-6) and Army (11-17-1, 5-7) split a doubleheader as the Mountain Hawks took the first game 9-8, and the Black Knights won the nightcap 5-2 in eight innings. In the first game after trailing 6-0, Lehigh scored in the fifth inning when senior Rob Moran doubled down the left field line scoring freshman Jeff Quiros. Moran would then go on to score on a wild pitch. Lehigh would get another run in the next inning off of a sacrifice fly from sophomore Jeremy Mack to make it 6-3. Things did not look good for the Mountain Hawks after Army put up two more runs in the top of the seventh. However, the Mountain Hawks would not die that easily. Junior Jeff Pietrak came up big with an RBI double to cut the lead to 8-4. Freshman Jesse Novalis then hit an RBI single followed by a bases loaded walk by sophomore Jarrod Niedosik to bring in another run cutting the lead to two. Moran hit a sacrifice fly to left field scoring senior Matt Andrews to make it 8-7. It all came down to junior Justin Pagan who stepped up to the plate with bases loaded and two outs. Pagan hit a laser into right field which enabled two runs to score and to give the Mountain Hawks the victory.
Freshman Keith Frerichs (2-1) received the win for Lehigh even though junior Dave Cerminaro pitched a strong game. He went six and two-third innings, walked two, struck out five, and only game up three earned runs.
The second game saw Lehigh get a run across to make it 1-0 after the fourth inning. The Black Knights would drive in two the next inning but Lehigh was able to tie it up in that same inning when Pagan struck again and smacked a single to right field that scored Mack. Neither team was able to get the go ahead run across in the seventh inning. In the eighth Army tacked on three runs, two of which were courtesy of a Josh Rizzo two-run double that put Army up for good.
Junior Brian Andalman (0-6) suffered the loss for Lehigh after pitching seven and two-thirds innings and striking out one.
Lehigh and Army meet up again tomorrow in another doubleheader at Lehigh. The first game will begin at noon.
