Lehigh and Navy meet in home-and-home series

Offensively Navy is second among Patriot League teams in almost every category with the exception of triples, where it ranks third in the nation with 15 on the year. Two underclassmen have been the main catalyst to this offense. Freshman Jonathan Wright and sophomore Michael Speciale both lead the team with a .373 average and 41 hits. Speciale is also tied for the team lead with three triples and has a team high .627 slugging percentage.
The Midshipmen lead the league with a 4.94 team ERA, despite having Mitch Harris, who was rated as the 29th-best collegiate prospect, pitch just 1.2 innings all season. The Mountain Hawks are close behind Navy, with a team ERA of 5.01. Lehigh’s top pitcher this season has been sophomore Greg Angelo, who is tied for second in the league with a 2.58 ERA. He also leads the league and is ranked 23rd in the country, allowing just 5.4 hits per nine innings.
On the offensive side for Lehigh, four of the top five hitters on the team are freshmen, led by Brendan McGaheran with a .320 average. The infielder also has a team high 32 hits and nine doubles. Senior Joe Ercolano leads the team with three homeruns, 20 RBI and a league best 13 stolen bases.
This weekend Ercolano will also be looking to surpass Jesse Novalis ’04 as Lehigh’s career leader in hits. With 200 in his career, the centerfield needs just seven more hits to become the all-time leader at Lehigh.
