Eight newcomers join women's lacrosse program

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Jill Redfern has announced the newest additions to the Lehigh women’s lacrosse program, which includes eight student-athletes from four states. The newest Mountain Hawks arrive with impressive credentials, as three earned All-American distinction in high school, and five newcomers were Academic All-Americans.
The first member of Lehigh’s class of 2012 is Margaret Allen, from Long Valley, New Jersey. Allen, who graduated from West Morris Central High School served as co-captain of her high school team as a senior, and also earned team MVP honors that season. Allen, an All-Conference, All-Area, and All-County selection throughout her high school career, helped lead West Morris Central to a sectional State Championship in 2007 and 2008. Off the field, Allen was a member of the St. Luke Youth Ministry and the Student Council and she served as a Class Officer.
Arriving from Oceanport, New Jersey is Kelly Draper, a recent graduate of Shore Regional High School. Draper was a 2008 All-American and a 2007 honorable mention All-American, while in 2008 she garnered Academic All-American laurels. Draper was also a two time First-Team All-State selection, the 2007 and 2008 Asbury Park Press All Shore Player of the Year and one of the top five scorers in the Garden State in each of her final two seasons. An All-Shore soccer player as well, Draper was a member of the National Honor Society, a Shore Scholar, the recipient of the Edward J. Bloustein Distinguished Scholar Award and the French Achievement Award. She also received the President’s Award for Educational Excellence and the United State Navy Scholastic Leadership Award and served as the Student Council Vice President as well as the Junior Class President.
Emma Kramer arrives at Lehigh from Riverside, Connecticut where she graduated from Greenwich High School. Kramer was First Team All-FCIAC and All-State selection as a senior as well as the Coaches Award recipient. Kramer also participated in field hockey where she received All-FCIAC and All-State honors and was the team MVP. Off the field, Kramer was a four-year high honor roll selection, a member of the National Honor Society and she was a member of the Breast Cancer Alliance and Stand by me Peer Tutoring.
A midfielder from Abington, Maryland, Alison Luongo was an Academic All-American at John Carroll School where she helped lead her team to back-to-back IAAMA Conference Championships and a number-one national ranking during her senior season. A three-year member of the varsity lacrosse program at John Carroll, Luongo was a Maryland Distinguished Scholar Honorable Mention and member of the National Honor Society, and she also participated in basketball, soccer, field hockey, soccer and track and field.
Arriving by way of Moorestown, New Jersey is Morgan Miller, an Academic All-American from Moorestown High School. Miller’s high school team was ranked fifth in America and won four state championships in lacrosse, as well as a pair of state titles in soccer. Miller was a Rotary Club representative, and a member of the Yearbook Club and Honor and Service Society.
A First-Team All-American, Lauren Murray comes to Lehigh from Chatham, New Jersey where she graduated from Chatham High School. Murray received First-Team All-State, All-Conference, All-Area and All-County honors as a senior, which followed a junior season in which she garnered First-Team All-Conference, All-Area, All-County and Second-Team All-State accolades. Murray helped lead Chatham to the 2008 Group, Sectional and County Championships and was a member of the Key Club, Pep Club, Homecoming Committee and she served as a P.A.W.S. leader. In the classroom, Murray was awarded the Tyler Bernsten Memorial Student-Athlete Scholarship and she was a member of the honor roll and the National Honor Roll.
Caitlin Oberlin is a midfielder/defender from Upper Arlington High School in Ohio where she led her high school to the 2008 State Championship as well as an appearance in the 2007 State Championship Game. A three-year starter, Oberlin was a member of the Great Lakes National Team Number-One, as well as the OSLA All-Tournament Team and the All-District Team. Oberlin, who was also an All-Region selection on the field hockey field, was a member of the Student Foundation, the Cum Laude Society, the Upper Arlington Civic Association, Big Brothers Big Sisters Organization and she was a Student Youth Volunteer. In the classroom, Oberlin was an Academic All-American, the lacrosse and field hockey scholar athlete award winner and an All-Ohio Academic selection.
The final member of Lehigh’s class of 2012 is Anna Pierce from Shore Regional High School in New Jersey. A native of West Long Branch, Pierce earned All-American honors in 2008, as well as First-Team All-Shore recognition. A three-sport standout, Pierce also participated in soccer and basketball, serving as captain in lacrosse and basketball. An Academic All-American, Pierce was her class’s valedictorian, a Bloustein Scholar, the treasurer of the National Honor Society, and a New Jersey Interscholastic Athletic Association Scholar Athlete.
Lehigh returns 12 letterwinners from a season ago for the 2009 campaign, including the last three Patriot League Rookies of the Year. The Mountain Hawks also bring back all six of their program record All-League selections from last season as well.
