BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Sarah Fudin and Tess McGrath have been named captains of the Lehigh Women’s Lacrosse program for the 2009 season head coach Jill Redfern announced.  The pair of seniors, who were teammates in high school, were elected captain by their teammates, and for McGrath, this is her second year in that role, after serving as captain during her sophomore year.  “Hard work and determination have become cornerstones of our program in large measure due to the standard that Tess and Sarah have established,” Redfern explained.  “These two young women exemplify the types of players we want on our team.  We are proud to have them in the role of team captain."

A three-year starter and two time All-Patriot League selection, Fudin enters her senior season with 89 career ground balls and is coming off a junior year in which she led the Mountain Hawks with a career-high 22 caused turnovers as well as 40 GBs.  The New York native caused a season best three turnovers vs. Villanova a year ago, started all 17 games, and earned a spot on the All-Patriot League Second-Team.  As a sophomore Fudin scooped up 28 ground balls and was named to the All-Patriot League Second-Team, as well as the Patriot League All-Tournament Team.  Fudin has played in 50 games throughout her first three seasons in the Brown and White and is a multi-year member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.

McGrath enters her senior season having played in a total of 50 games throughout her first three years at Lehigh.  An accounting major, McGrath has scored 18 goals, handed out 18 assists and scooped up 93 ground balls in that time.  Last season, McGrath scored six goals, handed out seven helpers and led the Mountain Hawks in draw controls with 39.  She also picked up 39 ground balls and caused six turnovers.  As a sophomore, McGrath found the back of the net a career-best eight times, including two goals in a win over Villanova.  A multi-year member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, McGrath joined Fudin on the 2007 Patriot League All-Tournament Team.

Fudin, McGrath and the rest of the Mountain Hawks begin their fall season on Friday, September 19 when they take on archrival Lafayette as well as Villanova.
