BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Senior two-sport star Christy Smith was named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District II At-Large First-Team, it was recently announced.  A standout on the field hockey and lacrosse fields, this marks the second consecutive year Smith has received this honor after garnering Second-Team accolades in 2007.  An integrated business and industrial engineering major, Smith recently graduated from Lehigh with an overall grade point average of 3.89.  As a First-Team selection, Smith now moves onto the national ballot where she will have a chance to become an Academic All-American.

On the lacrosse field, Smith is a two time All-Patriot League selection who scored 88 goals during her four years in the Brown and White to go along with 26 assists and 154 ground balls.  During the 2008 season, Smith led the Mountain Hawks in ground balls, ranked fifth in draw controls and sixth in points and goals.  Smith was honored as the 2007 and 2008 Patriot League Women’s Lacrosse Scholar Athlete of the Year.

Smith was named the 2007 Patriot League Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Year after scoring eight goals, including the game winner in all three of the Mountain Hawks Patriot League victories this season, to go along with five assists, 21 points, and 53 shots.  A three time All-League honoree and two time All-Region selection in field hockey, Smith became the first Mountain Hawk in six years to be selected to the NFHCA Senior All-Star Game and finished her career with 22 goals, 11 assists and 55 points.

Smith is a multi-year member of the Dean’s List, the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, and the NFHCA All-Academic Team.  She was honored as the Lehigh Athletic Department’s Graduating Scholar Athlete Award winner in April, the highest honor given out by the department.
