LEWISBURG, Pa. – Lehigh closed out its regular season in dramatic fashion on Saturday afternoon as the Mountain Hawks rallied for an 11-10 double overtime victory against Bucknell.  Sophomore Inneke Carmola scored a game-high five goals, including the game-winner at the 4:59 mark of the second overtime to send the Mountain Hawks to their tenth win of the season.  The ten wins are the most for Lehigh since 2003.  Lauren Dykstra and Sara MacIntyre both scored two goals apiece in the win.  Bucknell falls to 6-7 overall and 1-5 in league action following the loss.

Lehigh out shot Bucknell 29-25 on the afternoon, led by Carmola’s nine attempts and Dykstra’s eight.  The Mountain Hawks scooped up just ten ground balls, and they won ten draw controls.  Juniors Sarah Fudin and Tess McGrath caused two turnovers apiece as Lehigh forced Bucknell into 16 turnovers for the game.  In goal for the Brown and White sophomore Kelsy Ferris sent back ten shots in her 67 minutes of action.

Bucknell scored the game’s first goal at the 27:20 mark, but Carmola scored the first of her handful of goals less than two minutes later.  The Bison took the lead back 1:31 after Carmola’s score, but Lehigh answered right back with two more scores from Carmola to take a 3-2 lead at the 13:36 mark.  Becca Devine tied things at three however with her first score of the afternoon with 11:52 remaining in the half.

Carmola found the back of the net for the fourth time on a free position shot with 11:24 on the clock but that was Lehigh’s final lead of the first half as the home team scored three straight times to surge in front 6-4 with under ten to go.  Dykstra got on the board at the 8:56 mark to bring Lehigh to within one, but Carol Donohue scored an unassisted goal with 1:07 remaining to make the score 7-5 in favor of the home team at halftime.

Christy Smith opened the second half with a score off a feed from Meagan Tenety and Carolyn Von Heil followed with a goal of her own as Lehigh tied the game at seven at the 26:18 mark.  Bucknell went up one when Paige Kasschau slipped a shot past Ferris at the 25:17 clip, but MacIntyre tied the contest one more time, making the score 8-8 with 15:48 to go.

Back-to-back goals from the Bison put Lehigh in a two-goal hole with 12:13 to go.  The score remained 10-8 in favor of Bucknell with less than five minutes left, but that is where the Mountain Hawks made their move as MacIntyre scored at the 4:45 mark, and with just 1:45 left in regulation, Dykstra scored goal number-61 on the season to send the teams into overtime.

After one scoreless period of OT, Carmola took a feed from freshman Allison Thomas and found the back of the net for the fifth time overall, and the first time since the opening half to send the Mountain Hawks to their tenth win in 2008.

Lehigh returns to action on Friday, April 25 when the Mountain Hawks travel to Washington, D.C. to compete in the 2008 Patriot League Tournament.  The number-three seed Mountain Hawks will take on second seeded Colgate in one semifinal, while top seed and host American takes on the No. 4 seed Navy in the other.
