HAMILTON, N.Y. – Lehigh had its hands full with Colgate on Saturday afternoon as the Mountain Hawks fell 19-7 versus the Raiders despite a career-high three goals from freshman Kindall Healy. Classmate Lauren Dykstra added two scores for the Brown and White, while Inneke Carmola and Christy Smith both scored once. With the loss, Lehigh falls to 8-6 overall and 3-2 in the Patriot League, while Colgate improves to 7-7 overall and remains perfect at 5-0 in league action.
Lehigh was out 35-22 on the afternoon and won just eight of 28 draw controls. Senior Seana Smith led the Mountain Hawks in ground balls with four, while Lindsey Smith and Kelsy Ferris both scooped up three. Ferris made ten saves in goal for Lehigh, while her counterpart, Sara Drexler, stopped 14 shots in goal for the Raiders.
Colgate scored the game’s first eight goals in the opening 13:08 before Healy netted Lehigh’s first score at the 16:41 mark of the opening half. Two more scores from the home team made it a 10-1 game, but the Mountain Hawks battled back as Healy scored twice and Carmola once, as the Brown and White cut it to a six-goal game, 10-4. Jess Van der Meulen netted a goal with 31 ticks left before halftime however, and the Raiders went into intermission up 11-4.
As they did in the first half, the Raiders opened the second with a strong scoring run, as they netted eight straight goals to take a 19-4 lead at the 12:31 mark. Christy Smith stopped the Lehigh drought with a goal at the 7:37 mark and Dykstra scored twice in a span of 2:20 to make the final tally 19-7.
Lehigh finished up 15-of-22 on clear attempts and forced 17 Colgate turnovers, but five goals from Brie Moran and Meghan Lawler along with four from Van der Meulen and Lindsay Pittard were too much to overcome.
Lehigh is back in action on Tuesday evening when the Mountain Hawks welcome the Villanova Wildcats to the Ulrich Sports Complex on Senior Night. The opening draw control is set for 7:00 and all of the action will be shown live on Lehighsports.com.
