CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Mountain Hawks once again put up a strong showing against one of the nations top teams but could not pull out wins, falling 12-1 and 6-1 in a doubleheader against No. 17 Virginia on Sunday.  Glenn Seitz drove in a run in the second game and Danny Egly picked up an RBI in the first game for the Mountain Hawks.  The losses drop Lehigh’s record to 0-4, while Virginia improves to 4-0.

In the first game, the Virginia bats came alive to score eight runs in the first two innings.  David Adams provided much of the offense for the Cavaliers, driving in five runs, coming off two homeruns.  Andrew Berger got the start on the mound for the Mountain Hawks, going 1.2 innings, giving up eight runs on six hits.

The Lehigh bullpen did a great job to slow down the offense, as freshman Mike Lebo worked 2.1 innings, surrendering just one earned run on three hits.  Ken Longernecker pitched the final two innings, giving up one run on two hits.

The Brown and White scored its only run of the game in the top of the seventh, when Egly drove in freshman Austin Borden, who had reached base earlier in the inning for his first career hit.

Andrew Carraway earned the win, going six innings, giving up just two hits and struck out eight batters.  Tyler Wilson pitched the final inning, allowing one run on two hits.

In the second game, the Cavaliers struck first with runs in the third and fourth innings.  The Mountain Hawks responded with an RBI from Seitz, allowing Joe Ercolano to score to make the game 2-1.  Virginia rallied to score four runs in the bottom of the sixth to put the game out of reach.

Despite scoring one run, Lehigh belted out a season high seven hits, including multi-hit games from freshman Billy Goldman and sophomore Patrick Groome.

Freshman Kevin Mihalik went 5.2 innings on the mound in his first career start, surrendering five earned runs on eight hits, while striking out two.  Rob Russell and Geoff Campbell relieved Mihalik for the final 2.1 innings, and the duo gave up just three hits while holding the Cavaliers to no runs.

Robert Morey earned the win in relief, pitching three perfect innings and striking out four batters.  Starter Jeff Lorick went four innings giving up one run on seven hits.

The Mountain Hawks return to the diamond on Wednesday when they take on the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore in a doubleheader.  The first game is scheduled to start at 12 p.m. from Princess Anne, Maryland.
