BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh recently held its end-of-season banquet to look back on the 2007 season in which the Mountain Hawks earned the number-two seed in the Patriot League Tournament, garnered two major awards from the Patriot League and won its most games since 2003.  Three student-athletes received awards including the Scholar Athlete, Athlete of the Year and Coaches Award.

Junior Christy Smith received the Scholar Athlete Award for the second consecutive season.  The Scholar Athlete Award is awarded to the student-athlete who in the eyes of her teammates exemplifies the ideal of a scholar-athlete.  Smith carries a 3.87 grade point average in the classroom as an industrial engineering major and is a multi-year member of the Dean’s List and Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.  On the field, Smith was a 2007 Second-Team All-Patriot League selection after starting all 17 games for the Mountain Hawks and scoring 22 goals to go with 11 assists.  Smith also scooped up 31 ground balls, won 24 draw controls and scored four free position goals.

Freshman Inneke Carmola was honored as the Outstanding Athlete, which is awarded to the team member who makes the most outstanding athletic contribution to the accomplishment of the team.  Carmola scored 46 goals this season, one shy of the all-time mark for a freshman, on her way to earning the Patriot League Rookie of the Year award.  Carmola was a First-Team All-League selection after scoring more than one goal in 13 different games, including a career-best seven in a win over Colgate.  Carmola was also the recipient of the John S. Steckbeck award, which is presented annually to the top freshman female athlete in the Lehigh Athletics Department.

Junior Seana Smith was presented with the Coaches Award, which is awarded to the individual who made significant contributions to the well-being of the team in terms of attitude, improvement or special leadership.  Smith had a career season for the Brown and White, starting all 17 games on defense, recording a team-best 38 ground balls along the way.  The Pennsylvania native also won nine draw controls and caused 11 turnovers, while helping to mentor Lehigh’s young crop of defenders throughout the season.
