“I thought that we made the little mistakes tonight, like not being able to transition the ball or not connecting on the attacking end,” head coach Liz Ota commented afterwards. “We weren’t able to shift the momentum when we needed to, in terms of getting a goal when we needed it or causing a turnover. Overall it was a good effort, but we just weren’t able to execute the way we would have wanted.”
Lehigh unleashed 23 shots on the evening, while
Columbia jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first six minutes, but Lehigh came right back with four goals of its own, as MacIntyre, Christy Smith and Carmola combined for the four scores to tie the game at four with 10:47 left in the opening half. The Lions would score two more times however before halftime to take a 6-4 lead into the intermission.
Holly Glynn scored the first goal of the second half to put the Lions in front by three, but Carmola netted her 38th goal of the season to bring the Mountain Hawks back to within two. Glynn scored yet again to make the score 8-5
Lehigh returns to action on Saturday evening when the Mountain Hawks play host to league foe American in what is a huge game in terms of postseason implications. Should Lehigh win that game, the Mountain Hawks will qualify for the 2007 Patriot League Tournament, but even if Lehigh were to lose, the Brown and White can still make the tournament, depending upon the outcome of the other games around the league that day. Game time from the Ulrich Sports Complex is set for 5:00.
