Lehigh rides fast start to second straight win

Sophomore Sara MacIntyre scored one goal for the Brown and White, while seniors Lissy King and Vienna Pharaon each handed out two assists. The Mountain Hawks recorded 20 ground balls and took 20 shots, while turning the Wildcats over 22 times and winning seven draw controls. Freshman Kelsy Ferris sent back 15 shots in goal for Lehigh, while King and sophomore Kyle Roth both recorded four ground balls and caused two turnovers apiece.
Christy Smith put the Mountain Hawks on the board first with an unassisted goal at the 25:10 mark of the first half, but Taylor Lucy tied the game at one with a score of her own at the 24:02 mark. Carmola gave the Mountain Hawks the lead her a score off of a free position shot with 13:09 left in the opening half, and McGrath scored back-to-back goals in a matter of just 27 seconds to put Lehigh comfortably in front at 4-1 with 2:52 on the clock. Smith then scored 25 seconds later and added the half’s final score with just 1:27 left, and the Mountain Hawks went into halftime leading by a score of 6-1.
Christina Bahrs brought Villanova to within four with a score off of a free position shot to open the final half, but Smith and MacIntyre scored within 30 seconds of one another and with 25:14 to go in the game, Lehigh was ahead 8-2. From there though, the Mountain Hawks saw Villanova score three straight times to pull within three, at 8-5, with 19:47 to go. Carmola stopped the run with her second score the night, but three more ‘Nova goals made the score 9-8 at the 4:12 mark. Carmola completed her hat trick however with another free position shot to seal the victory and send the Mountain Hawks to their second straight win.
