BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh recently put the finishing touches on its six-week fall segment of allotted practices.  The Mountain Hawks practiced five days a week where they focused on strength and conditioning, as well as fundamentals, and towards the end, moved into strategic implementation.  “The fall is where the development of the style of play for this particular team takes place,” head coach Liz Ota explained.  “Overall, I was very pleased with the fall season.  We had four competition dates which were spread out and helped us see the progress and the development of our 2007-2008 team.”

Ota continued, “We were able to get a good sense of what we need to work on-as a group and as individuals.  We saw some different players in different positions and what they were able to do.  Now heading into the next phase of our training and our small group work on the turf, we know what we need to improve upon and what worked well.”

The Mountain Hawks squared off versus some very formidable foes throughout the fall including Big East member Rutgers, Patriot League newcomer Navy, Villanova, Monmouth, LaSalle, and archrival Lafayette.

Lehigh added seven freshmen this season, many of which Ota expects to make contributions in the spring.  She commented on how the class as a whole adjusted to collegiate lacrosse this fall.  “The big thing with this freshmen class is they share the common goals of the upperclassmen.  This team has great chemistry and it really showed throughout the fall.”  She continued, “The freshmen add a lot of competition particularly in our practice settings.  Once we get into our competitive season, a few of them should draw attention that could help take the focus off of some of our older players.”

With the fall season behind them, Ota talked about what she saw from the Mountain Hawks during the six-week period.  “Overall, the team has a better sense of what to improve on.  Our defense is very experienced and should be a major strength come the spring.  (Goal keeper) Kelsy (Ferris) is stronger and looks very sharp in goal for us.  Also, with Sara MacIntyre and Inneke Carmola returning, along with a number of others, we should have a dynamic attack which should allow us to capitalize on other teams’ weaknesses and to execute better.”
