BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Patriot League announced its all-league teams and major award winners on Friday, and Lehigh had three student-athletes honored for their on-field accomplishments this past season.  Freshman Sara MacIntyre was named the Co-Rookie of the Year, while junior Amy Chamberlain, sophomore Christy Smith and MacIntyre were all named to the Second-Team.  This is Chamberlain’s second straight all-league nod and the first for Smith.  The league’s seven head coaches vote on the teams.

MacIntyre had perhaps the greatest freshman season in school history, netting 47 goals, scooping up 23 ground balls and recording 20 draw controls.  The 47 goals were the most ever by a Lehigh freshman, breaking the mark of All-American Jill Altshuler and Carla Juliani, and led the Patriot League.  MacIntyre’s 52 points were fifth best in the league and the Pennsylvania native was a three-time Rookie of the Week selection.  MacIntyre scored seven goals in her first-ever collegiate game vs. Fairfield and duplicated that feat again versus St. Joe’s.  She netted four or more goals on seven separate occasions and failed to score in just two of the Mountain Hawks games.  MacIntyre also led the league with three game-winning scores.

MacIntyre becomes Lehigh’s first Rookie of the Year since Altshuler took home the award in 1993 and just the third ever, joining Altshuler and Kristin Gills, who took the honor in 1992.  MacIntyre is also the Mountain Hawks first major award winner since Altshuler earned the Offensive Player of the Year honor in 1996.

With 32 goals and 14 assists Chamberlain again asserted herself as one of the top offensive players in the entire Patriot League this season.  The design arts major also added 29 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers.  Chamberlain scored four or more goals four times this season including a season-best five versus Longwood, and her three assists in a victory over St. Joe’s was a season-high.  She ranked in the top-ten of the Patriot League in goals (9), assists (6) and points (6).

Chamberlain, who was a First-Team selection a season ago, has now scored 93 career goals, handed out 39 assists and totaled 132 points.  She stands just 44 goals and 26 points away from the all-time top-five in school history.

Using blazing speed and deceptive moves on the field, Smith amassed 20 goals and seven assists in her sophomore year.  The engineering major also added team-highs in ground balls (54) and draw controls (27) and caused five turnovers.  Her 54 ground balls were second in the Patriot League and 35th in the nation.  Smith, who was also an All-League selection in field hockey, has scored 44 career goals, handed out 11 assists, totaled 55 points and scooped up 78 ground balls.

Lehigh has now placed at least two players on the all-league teams in every season but one, and the Mountain Hawks have had at least three student-athletes selected ten times, including two straight seasons.
