BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh first baseman Matt McBride was 4-for-5 with a double, two runs scored, and two runs batted in as the Mountain Hawks topped Penn by a score of 11-6 in game two of a doubleheader at Lehigh’s baseball field on Goodman Campus on Sunday afternoon.  In the opener, the Quakers picked up a 4-1 victory over Lehigh.

Following the twinbill split – the second in two days between the squads – the Mountain Hawks’ record stands at 8-10 on the season.  The Quakers are 3-10 overall in 2006.

In game two, McBride helped Lehigh overcome a 5-0 deficit with his efforts at the plate.  Freshman shortstop Leland Weisband, sophomore center fielder Joe Ercolano, and junior right fielder Nick Bet combined for six hits as the Mountain Hawks put nine runs on the boards in the game’s middle three innings.

Sophomore hurler Billy Alec pitched well out of the pen to garner his first win of the season.  Alec (1-1) scattered three hits and two runs (one earned) over six innings of relief to hold the Quakers at bay while the Mountain Hawks completed the comeback.

Earlier in the day, Lehigh senior Kyle Collina (2-2) struck out five in a complete game effort, but the Quakers earned a 4-1 win in a seven inning contest.  Bet, along with designated hitter John Zaszewski recorded two hits each in a losing effort.

Penn’s Steven Schwartz threw six innings to pick up his first win of the season.  Doug Brown pitched a scoreless seventh to earn the save.

Lehigh returns to the diamond on Tuesday, when the Mountain Hawks Delaware in the first round of the 2006 Liberty Bell Classic.  Game time is set for 3:00 pm from the baseball field on Goodman Campus.  The Mountain Hawks are in the midst of a nine-game home stand.
