No. 14 Lehigh downs Harvard, then blanks Brown

The Mountain Hawks opened a 12-0 lead on the Crimson as Harvard had to forfeit at both 125 and 133. The first wrested bout went to the Crimson as Max Meltzer edged Matt Ennis, who was a late replacement for Cory Cooperman 6-5.
Lehigh would then take control, winning the next four bouts, including major decisions from seniors Derek Zinck at 157 and Travis Frick at 174. Both put on takedown clinics in their respective matches to earn four point wins for the Mountain Hawks. At 149 Matt Ciasulli scored an early takedown and went to work from the top position as he shut out Bobby Latessa 4-0. Dave Nakasone also got into the win column with a 3-1 decision over Mike Baria.
Harvard won two of the final three bouts, with Louis Caputo edging Brian LaMay at 184 and No. 8 heavyweight Bode Ogunwole holding off Paul Weibel 7-5. Matt Cassidy was a winner for the Mountain Hawks, with a 10-5 win over Billy Colgan.
Against Brown, Ennis got the Mountain Hawks off to a fast start with a 13-4 major decision over Mark Savino, and Lehigh never looked back. The Brown and White won all ten bouts, including six bonus wins.
After Ciasulli defeated Mike Ashton Zinck came out and earned a second period pin on Mike Savino. Nakasone’s second win of the day, gave Lehigh the first four bouts.
The Mountain Hawks would go on to put together four consecutive bonus wins as they rolled through the upper weights. Frick opened up a 14-3 lead on Matt Gevelinger after one period, scoring four takedowns and two three-point near falls. The senior captain continued to pour things on in the second, and secured a 20-5 tech fall. At 184 LaMay also earned a tech fall, converting a five-point move late in the third period to earn the 15 point lead as he was able to provide Lehigh’s second consecutive five-point win.
Head coach Greg Strobel flipped his 197 pound grapplers but both came away with major decisions. Weibel, wrestling at 197 won 12-4 over Leo Saniuk and then Cassidy, making his first start at heavyweight, won 14-4.
Lehigh’s lightweights, Fisk and Stout also picked up wins by decision to secure Lehigh’s first shutout since blanking Pitt-Johnstown in November, 2004.
The Mountain Hawks will return to the mats on Saturday when they welcome Hofstra and
