After leading the Mountain Hawks to a berth in the Patriot League Tournament in her first season, Ota is anxious to begin the 2006 campaign, and knows that Redfern’s experience and knowledge will contribute immensely to the continued development of the program. “We are most excited about the addition of a full time assistant coach to the women’s lacrosse staff,” explains Ota. “After serving for three years as an assistant, Jill will assume the role of Associate Head Coach, assisting in the areas of student-athlete recruitment, scouting and scheduling, in addition to coaching and player development.”
Ota continues, “Jill and I essentially operate as co-head coaches. Together, we make decisions regarding competition, game-planning and recruitment. We are also able to provide a unique teaching environment with two head coaches. We emphasize player development on the defensive and offensive sides of the field, and focus on refining individuals’ skills before we advance our strategic plans.”
Ota concludes, “With more than ten years of coaching experience in the Patriot League, Jill has exceptional knowledge of the game and of the league. She is a top-notch coach and mentor to our student-athletes.”
Redfern offered her views on the new appointment: “Lehigh’s commitment to this full-time position demonstrates the University’s vision of establishing a successful and stable women’s lacrosse program. I look forward to developing a winning tradition with Liz Ota.”
