BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh head coach Liz Ota has announced that Jill Redfern will assume the new role of associate head coach.  Redfern is in her fourth season as a member of the Mountain Hawks coaching staff, and will assist Ota in numerous areas and capacities.  In other lacrosse news, Lehigh has announced its fall schedule, which includes two home dates, an alumni event and an appearance in a tournament.

After leading the Mountain Hawks to a berth in the Patriot League Tournament in her first season, Ota is anxious to begin the 2006 campaign, and knows that Redfern’s experience and knowledge will contribute immensely to the continued development of the program.  We are most excited about the addition of a full time assistant coach to the women’s lacrosse staff,” explains Ota.  “After serving for three years as an assistant, Jill will assume the role of Associate Head Coach, assisting in the areas of student-athlete recruitment, scouting and scheduling, in addition to coaching and player development.”

Ota continues, “Jill and I essentially operate as co-head coaches.  Together, we make decisions regarding competition, game-planning and recruitment.  We are also able to provide a unique teaching environment with two head coaches.  We emphasize player development on the defensive and offensive sides of the field, and focus on refining individuals’ skills before we advance our strategic plans.”

Ota concludes, “With more than ten years of coaching experience in the Patriot League, Jill has exceptional knowledge of the game and of the league.  She is a top-notch coach and mentor to our student-athletes.”

Redfern offered her views on the new appointment: “Lehigh’s commitment to this full-time position demonstrates the University’s vision of establishing a successful and stable women’s lacrosse program.  I look forward to developing a winning tradition with Liz Ota.”

Ota, Redfern and the rest of the Mountain Hawks will be hard at work this fall, between practices, strength and conditioning sessions and a series of scrimmages and tournaments.  The first scrimmage is scheduled for Friday, September 30 at 6:00 versus Monmouth.  That contest will be played at the Ulrich Sports Complex on the turf field.

On Saturday, October 15, the annual alumnae game will be held beginning at 9:30 AM at the Ulrich Sports Complex.  Warm ups will begin at 9:00, with the game scheduled to begin 30 minutes after.  This event is in conjunction with Young Alumni Day at Lehigh University.

Following the alumni event, Lehigh will get back to work on Thursday, October 20 at 6:30 PM, when the Mountain Hawks host Lafayette and La Salle on the turf field.  That weekend, on Sunday, October 23, Lehigh will travel to Newark, Del. to take part in the University of Delaware Tournament.
