BETHLEHEM, Pa. – With a 5-0 record and five consecutive shutouts, Lehigh is off to its best start in school history. The accolades continued to roll in for the Mountain Hawks on Tuesday as sophomore midfielder Jen Fetsick was honored as the Patriot League Player of the Week. In addition, Lehigh is ranked 8th in the Mid-Atlantic region in the latest NSCAA/Adidas regional rankings and 13th in the region by Soccer Buzz magazine, the Mountain Hawks’ first ever appearances in regional rankings.

Fetsick scored in both of Lehigh’s games last week. She scored the game winner in a 2-0 win over La Salle on Wednesday, then provided an insurance goal in the Mountain Hawks 2-0 triumph at Stony Brook on Sunday. Fetsick’s two goals tie her for the team lead and her five points are also tied for tops on the team.

One week after receiving votes for the first time in school history, the Mountain Hawks cracked the Soccer Buzz regional poll at No. 13 in the Mid-Atlantic region. Lehigh is one of three undefeated teams in the region, joining Penn State (6-0) and Towson (3-0-1). Lehigh is one spot ahead of Patriot League foe Navy, while fellow League members Colgate and Army are ranked fifth and 11th respectively in the Northeast region.

Lehigh also appears atop several NCAA statistical categories. The Mountain Hawks are one of thirteen Division I teams who are undefeated and untied in 2005. Lehigh has also established a school record with five consecutive shutouts to start the season, and the Mountain Hawks have not been scored upon in over 455 minutes of game action. The Mountain Hawks are one of three teams (along with UNC-Asheville and Boston College) who have yet to yield a goal in 2005, but the Brown and White’s shutout streak of 455:23 is the best in the nation.

On an individual level, freshman goalkeeper Julie Kafka is tied for first in the NCAA with a goals against average of zero and a perfect save percentage. Neither Kafka (four shutouts) nor sophomore Brittany Besler (one) has allowed a goal this season.

The Mountain Hawks will look to continue on their impressive start when they return to the pitch on Tuesday night against Saint Joseph’s. Game time is set for 7:00 from Finnesey Field in Philadelphia.
