Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh closed out its regular season with three consecutive victories, including two league wins that helped the Mountain Hawks reach the Patriot League Tournament for the first time since 2003, and for its efforts, Lehigh placed three players on the 2005 All-Patriot League Teams, as announced by the league on Friday.
The teams are voted on by the league’s seven head coaches.
Seniors
Barrie Cominsky and
Sarah Starsoneck and sophomore
Amy Chamberlain were all selected, with Cominsky and Chamberlain garnering First-Team accolades and Starsoneck being voted on as a Second-Team choice.
This is Cominsky’s third time on the All-League team, and second straight season that she has been a First-Team selection.
Cominsky scored 33 goals and added nine assists for 42 points on the year, while also leading Lehigh in ground balls with 46 and in caused turnovers with 36. Cominsky was sixth in the Patriot League in goals, 11th in assists, sixth in points, tied for first in ground balls, and the Florida native led the league with those 36 caused turnovers. Cominsky registered 27 draw controls as well, which placed her in fifth place in the league. Cominsky joins Dorothy Super as the last two-time First-Team All-League selections at Lehigh and currently has 92 goals, 121 points, 29 assists, and 178 ground balls for her career.
Chamberlain had a magnificent season for the Mountain Hawks, scoring a team best 47 goals, while adding 14 assists, and a team-leading 61 points. Chamberlain ranked third in the Patriot League with those 47 goals, third in assists, second in points, and first in game-winning goals with three. The Pennsylvania native already has 59 career goals and 82 points.
Starsoneck had a very solid all-around season for Lehigh, as the Maryland native scored 24 goals, handed out 18 assists and registered 42 points. Starsoneck, who won the Lehigh women’s lacrosse Scholar Athlete of the Year Award the past two seasons, led the Patriot League in assists, was 11th in goals, seventh in points and scooped up 24 ground balls.
Lehigh returns to action this Saturday afternoon as the Mountain Hawks travel to Hamilton, New York to compete in the 2005 Patriot League Tournament. Lehigh will be the number four-seed and will take on the top-seeded Colgate Raiders at noon on Saturday. The other semi-final match-up will pit second-seeded Holy Cross against the third-seeded Eagles of American.
