Bethlehem, PA – Freshman Christy Smith was named the Patriot League’s Rookie of the Week for the second time this season on Monday afternoon, as announced by the league office.  Smith scored three goals with one assist and scooped up four ground balls in the Mountain Hawks two games last week, versus La Salle and Bucknell.  Lehigh fell to the Explorers on Wednesday evening, before coming back on Saturday afternoon with a thrilling 9-7 victory over the Bison at the Ulrich Sports Complex.

Smith netted one goal and handed out an assist in Lehigh’s game versus La Salle on Wednesday.  The freshman also scooped up three ground balls on the night.  She then scored two goals and scooped up four ground balls in the crucial victory over Bucknell on Saturday.  For the season, Smith has started all 14 games for the Mountain Hawks, just one of two freshmen to do that.  The engineering major has scored 20 goals and handed out three assists for 23 points, while scooping up 18 ground balls, and recording 16 draw controls.  She is one of six Mountain Hawks to score in double digits this season, and one of four who have hit the 20-goal plateau.

Smith and Lehigh return to action on Tuesday evening when the Mountain Hawks play host to Columbia from the Ulrich Sports Complex in the 2005 home finale and what will be “Senior Night.”  Game time is scheduled for 7:00.
