West Point, NY – A day after beating a tough Villanova team at home, Army’s Lichtenberg tennis center was not as kind to the Mountain Hawks, who dropped their Patriot League opener to the Black Knights Thursday by a 7-0 score. Lehigh was only able to muster a win at second doubles as the Mountain Hawks fall to 7-6 on the season, 0-1 in the league. Army improves to 15-4 overall, 1-0 in the Patriot League.

The three doubles contests featured tightly contested matches. After the Black Knights won at first doubles 8-3, Maria Anorga and Gwen Dywer came back to win 9-8 at second doubles. It would come down to third doubles, but Lindsay Long and Ashley Donahue came up just short losing 9-8 to Pam Chavez and Amanda Paluch so Army held an early 1-0 lead.

The Black Knights extended their lead in singles play as they won all six matches, five of them in straight sets. Maria Anorga came the closest for the Brown and White, losing 7-6, 6-7, 10-3 at fourth singles.

The Mountain Hawks will return to the court on Saturday, April 2, when they travel to the nations capital to take on American at 2:00.
