LU tops Binghamton in game one, game two ends in tie

Lehigh wraps up the day’s play with an 8-5-1 record. The Bearcats’ record now stands at 4-7-1 on the 2005 season.
In game one, Lehigh broke a scoreless deadlock in the bottom of the fourth when first baseman Mike Sandonato drove home second baseman Matt Geiger on a sacrifice fly. Later in the frame, the Mountain Hawks executed a double steal scoring Joe Ercolano from third with the game’s second run.
The two tallies proved to be more than enough for Lehigh hurler Joe Matteo. He tossed a complete game shutout for his second win of the season. Matteo struck out seven and scattered six hits in improving his record to 2-0 on the season.
Geiger was 2-for-3 at the plate for Lehigh in the win. There were no extra-base hits in the game.
In the second contest, the Bearcats jumped out early to a 3-0 lead on Lehigh starter Joe Raniszewski.
Lehigh got on the board in the home half of the fourth when an Ercolano sacrifice fly plated Forrest Doane.
Lehigh failed to capitalize on a scoring opportunity with runners at second and third in the bottom of the sixth, and the game was halted because of foggy conditions.
Lehigh returns to action on Wednesday, when the Mountain Hawks visit
