Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh dropped its spring season opener Friday afternoon 5-2 to Rutgers at the Lewis Tennis Center. The Mountain Hawks took two of six singles matches but were swept in doubles as the Scarlet Knights improved their record to 2-1 on the season.
The Mountain Hawks mustered just two wins in six singles matches against Rutgers. Freshman Alexis Jacobi picked up a win over Jill Markowitz at second singles while junior Starr Foster won a gritty three-set match against Lauren Edelschein. The four other Mountain Hawks lost their singles matches in straight sets and Rutgers was able to sweep all three doubles tilts.
Lehigh returns to the court on Sunday as the Mountain Hawks will host Howard and Towson. The Mountain Hawks look for their first spring victory of the season when they take on the Bison at 9:00 and then the Tigers at 4:00. In between, Howard will take on Towson at approximately 1:00.
