In the opening contest, Jack Muscalus ran his record to 6-2 with his fourth complete game of the season. The junior received more than enough offensive support, as the Mountain Hawks ran out to an eight-nothing lead in the fifth inning.
Center fielder David Moscow had the best game of his young Lehigh career, going 3-for-4 at the plate with four runs batted in. Jesse Novalis, Forrest Doane, Andrew Smith, Steve Salemme, and Jeff Baker all added two hits apiece in the victory. All nine Lehigh batters reached base at least once in the win.
In the second contest, the bats continued at their torrid pace, as the Mountain Hawks continued to pummel Navy pitching. Already leading by an 8-2 count entering the ninth inning, Lehigh batted around for the second time in the contest, adding eight additional runs.
In the inning, third baseman Jesse Novalis ripped a three-run homer to left field – his third bomb of the season. The home run was number 26 in Novalis’ career, tying him with Army’s Mike Scioletti for the Patriot League’s all-time record.
Eric Hoffman – the lone Lehigh player without a hit in game one – more than atoned for his game one performance with a 3-for-6 effort in the nightcap. He drove in three runs in the victory. Third baseman John Zaszewski also ripped three hits and drove in two in the victory. Catcher Matt McBride hit a two-run homer to left in the first inning, his first blast in a Lehigh uniform.
Not to be overlooked in the second game was the pitching performance of Karl Weimer. The junior pitched six solid innings to improve his record to 3-1. Weimer allowed just one run and six hits in the win. Kyle Collina pitched the final three innings to notch his fourth save of the season.
In the end, however, the Lehigh offense stole the show. The Mountain Hawks racked up 24 runs on 32 hits over the course of the doubleheader.
Elsewhere in league play on Saturday, front-runner Army (12-2) split a doubleheader at Holy Cross (5-9). In
