Women open Patriot League play with win over American

The match started well for the Mountain Hawks, who took two of the three doubles sets to go up 1-0. Top doubles team Kristen Nowicki and Rachel Samson held off a tough challenge by American’s Kristina Georgieva and Katarina Kollarova, beating them 8-6. Maria Anorga and Lindsay Long won the other set 8-3 for Lehigh, beating Ashley Rettev and Kirsten Wegel.
In singles, Nowicki took a straight set victory 6-1, 7-5 over Georgieva to keep Lehigh in the lead. Three other Lehigh players were winners, including Starr Foster in the sixth flight who breezed to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Rachael Honig. Anorga and Gwen Dwyer were also winners, as Anorga dispatched Retlev 6-4, 6-2 and Dywer won in the third flight match 6-4 7-6(4) over Sasha Zerkalova.
With the victory, Lehigh improves to 11-2 on the season, 1-0 in the Patriot League. 
The Mountain Hawks are back in action on Thursday, April 1, as they welcome archrival
