Mountain Hawks sweep Howard, Stony Brook

Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh earned its first two victories of the spring as the Mountain Hawks rolled past Howard and Stony Brook inside the Lewis Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon. The Mountain Hawks blanked Howard 7-0 in the opener, then followed that up with a convincing 6-1 triumph over Stony Brook.
Lehigh was absolutely dominant in doubles action on the afternoon, winning five of six matches. The tandem of seniors Kristen Nowicki and Rachel Samson were perfect at first doubles.
Against the Bison, Lehigh didn’t lose a single flight all day. The closest match was at first singles, where Nowicki outlasted Howard’s Kristen Harris 7-6, 6-4.
In the nightcap against Stony Brook, Lehigh again got off to a strong start, winning two of three doubles matches. In singles competition, Nowicki again picked up a top flight win. Maria Anorga then earned her second singles victory of the day by topping the Seawolves’ Georgia Bushell 6-0, 6-4. Freshman Lindsay Long – who earlier in the day rolled past Howard’s Danielle Blacanda – picked up a win at fourth singles in the Stony Brook match by out-lasting Lauren Conching in three sets. Starr Foster earned her first Lehigh victory at the No. 5 spot, and Cessa Murasko-Blank ended the day with her second win – an 8-0 decision over Dana Braunschweiger.
Lehigh (2-1) returns to the courts on Saturday, February 21, when the Mountain Hawks host Towson and Seton Hall at the Lewis Tennis Center. Action gets underway at 1:00.
