Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh saw its five game win streak come to a halt on Saturday as Colgate defeated the Mountain Hawks 14-3. The loss drops Lehigh’s record to 9-3 on the season and 2-3 in the Patriot League. Colgate improves to 10-5 for the year and 5-1 in the league.
Lehigh trailed 5-1 at the half, with sophomore Kellan Van Hoesen scoring the Mountain Hawks’ lone goal. After the Van Hoesen goal, Colgate went on an 8-0 run, including three goals by Rebecca Sandler and four by Katie McVeigh.
Lehigh would break the run, when junior Suzanne Aronowitz converted a free position attempt at the 8:58 mark of the second half. Freshman Molly Baker added her first goal of her college career at the 2:52 mark, assisted by senior Rosie Sherry.
"It was tough to come back from the big effort against Lafayette earlier this week," head coach Judy Baxter said. "Colgate has some threatening attackers and a lot of speed. But we did have some positives and we’ll try to build on those."
In her final home game, Sherry had an assist, caused two turnovers, and recovered a pair of ground balls. Sophomore Kristen Sherry had four ground balls, and freshman Kyle Begina made nine saves.
For Colgate, McVeigh led all scorers with five goals. Kelly Winning and Sandler added three goals apiece and Becky Ortalano had the lone Raider assist. Sandler also picked up four ground balls and was one of four Colgate players to cause three turnovers.
Lehigh will look to start another win streak on Monday, when travel to Holy Cross.
