Colgate visits Ulrich in league showdown

Bethlehem, PA – Lehigh tries to continue its climb up the Patriot League standings when Colgate visits the Ulrich Sports Complex in Lehigh’s final home game of 2003. The Mountain Hawks have won five straight and currently stand at 9-2 overall and 2-2 in the Patriot League.
Lehigh has a balanced offensive attack as only two goals separate the top goal scorer from the third and only nine points separate the team’s top four point scorers. Junior Meredith Carso leads the team in goals scored with 22 and is third with 26 points. Classmate Emily Studdiford has 20 goals to go along with team leading totals of ten assists and 30 points. Sophomore Kellan Van Hoesen is second on the team in goals with 21, assists with six and points with 21.
Sophomore Barrie Cominsky and senior Rosie Sherry lead the Lehigh defense in front of freshman goalkeeper Kyle Begina. Cominsky, the teams fourth leading scorer with 16 goals and 21 points, leads the team with 46 ground balls and is second to Sherry’s team high 33 caused turnovers with 26. Sherry is second on the team in ground balls with 35. Nationally, Cominsky rates seventh in ground balls per game and 14th in caused turnovers, while Sherry is tied for third in caused turnovers. Begina has played all 674:56 of the Mountain Hawks season in cage with a 7.56 goals against average and a .557 save percentage. The freshman ranks sixth in the nation in save percentage and tenth in GAA.
As a team, the Mountain Hawks are ninth in scoring defense and tied for seventh in caused turnovers.
Colgate enters the game at 9-5 overall and 4-1 in the Patriot League. Katie McVeigh leads the Raiders and the Patriot League with 41 goals and 46 points. Becky Ortolano, Caitlin Houck, and Kelly Winning have also topped the 20-goal mark. Five Raiders have either 35 or 36 ground balls. Sue Bielamowicz has started 13 of 14 games in goal for Colgate with a 9.31 GAA andd .472 save percentage.
